If your case does not qualify for sealing or expungement, there is an alternative: Executive Clemency & Expungement. This is a process where we submit a detailed petition which includes your entire criminal history, life story, and facts about the case(s) you are looking to get taken off your record. Once filed, the Prisoner Review Board will first make sure it complies with its strict filing requirements. If it does, a hearing date is set, typically in Chicago or Springfield. After the hearing, the Board will make a confidential recommendation to the Governor. The Governor is under no particular time limit for reviewing these.
The process can take time, so it is important to get it right the first time. Executive Clemency is difficult, and typically a relatively small number are granted. But, with a well put together petition, including all relevant information and documentation, you can increase your chances to clear that record.
