Criminal Appeals Information & Options

Criminal Appeals

Criminal Appeals Lawyer in Illinois & Federal Courts Nationwide

A conviction doesn’t have to be the end of the story. Fiscella Law handles criminal appeals across Illinois appellate districts and in federal jurisdictions throughout the United States, challenging legal errors that affected the outcome of a case.

If you believe the trial court got it wrong—or your lawyer missed something important—an appeal may be the next step.

Personalized Legal Strategies

We understand that every case is unique, which is why we develop personalized legal strategies tailored to your specific needs. We will work with you every step of the way to ensure the best possible outcome for your case.

The Appellate Process, Briefly...

Most appeals follow a straightforward sequence:

  1. Notice of Appeal Filed.  Deadlines matter. Missing a deadline can end the case before it starts.
  2. Record & Transcripts Prepared. The appellate court reviews the official record from the trial court—transcripts, exhibits, motions, and rulings.
  3. Written Briefs Submitted. We identify the strongest issues, research controlling case law, and file a detailed written argument explaining why the conviction or sentence should be reversed or modified.
  4. Oral Argument (Sometimes) In some cases, the court schedules a short hearing where the lawyers answer the judges’ questions.
  5. Decision Issued.  The court may affirm, reverse, order a new trial, reduce a sentence, or send the case back for further proceedings.

Why It Matters Who Hanldes the Appeal

Appeals are won through issue selection, legal writing, and strategy. We focus on the arguments most likely to move the needle—then build a clean, persuasive presentation that appellate judges can rule on.

If you’re considering an appeal in Illinois or a federal case anywhere in the country, we can review what happened and explain your options.
